Late nights again

October 19th, 2009 Cake Posted in Movies/TV Comments Off

DH and myself are back to watching an episode of something almost each night before we hit the sack. This means we don’t go to sleep before midnight.

I am alright with it as I do not have to go to work. DH gets up at 5.45am. I don’t know how he survives the day at work having slept for less than 6 hours each day. It wouldn’t surprise me if he suddenly develops dark circles under eyes – this I am sure would be quickly noticed by his colleagues.

I have advised DH to sleep by 10pm at the latest but we hardly stick to that because after DD goes to bed at 8.30pm/9pm, that window up to midnite is our only toddler free time. We feel it’s a bit of a waste to sleep it away.

That’s what we currently watch after DD goes to bed and after we have completed our task or leisure web surfing on the net at night. Thanks to a friend who recommended this Korean series to us, now we are hooked. The last Korean dramas I watched were the tear jerkers ie Summer Scent, Winter Sonata and the best, Autumn Tale which was 4 long years ago!

I know there are tons of addictive superb Hong Kong dramas available too, just can’t wait to find the time to do so.  I have a very bad habit in that I have to watch anything together with DH otherwise I feel very lonely, hehehe.  Plus that is the only time when both of us are side by side each other AWAKE! haha!

The Prestige – Movie

May 11th, 2008 Cake Posted in Movies/TV No Comments »

Finally got around to watching The Prestige with DH last nite (on the laptop lah).  Frankly speaking, if DH hadn’t taken the trouble to pause the movie every now and then just so he could explain to me what’s happening, I would not have been able to understand the story that well.  I was actually very surprised that he took the trouble to pause it several times just to ensure I understood the storyline because in the past, he didn’t like me asking him questions while we’re watching something!

Sometimes after watching some tv series especially NCIS and sci-fi, I didn’t quite get the story and DH would test my understanding by asking me to tell him what I thought the story was about.  So I gave him my version – usually very simple but enough for me to enjoy what I watched.  He’d laugh.  Then he’ll explain the story to me.  Very sweet of him.

IronMan

Have you watched it? I haven’t. Not that I want to anyway. My man went for a movie night out with his mates from work. I always let him, afterall, I know he’d do the same for me if the situation is reversed. He said it was an alright movie, though not as good as Spiderman. To be honest, I am not a fan of Robert Downey Jr at all. I know how good a movie is doesn’t have much to do with the actor but it’s just me.  Anyway, I don’t think I can stay awake in a movie if given a chance to watch one in the cinema! I’d prolly take the opportunity to catch forty winks without having to think about bubba looking for me.

Lethal Weapons of Love and Passion

March 29th, 2008 Cake Posted in Movies/TV No Comments »

Lately DH and I can’t wait to hop into bed soon after DD is asleep by around 8.30pm.  DH and I have been feeling a little tired after spending a few hours in bed and only get to sleep by midnite on weekdays.  And on weekends, it’ll be later than midnite!  We’ve been so busy and hooked on watching the TVB martial arts drama Lethal Weapons of Love and Passion on the laptop.  DH’s colleague lent us the DVDs for this drama series.

After watching the first two episodes, I thought it was just another typical boring HK love drama but I was wrong.  It has got some interesting twists to the story.  It’s all about the Mongolians and the Hans.  It has been a loooong time since I have watched any TVB series.  I am glad DH enjoys such series too eventhough he has to heavily rely on the subtitles to catch the whole story.

TV Series

March 18th, 2008 Cake Posted in Movies/TV No Comments »

Speaking of TV series, the only other ones I currently watch are

  • The Chronicles of Sarah Connor (Terminator)

  • Smallville

  • Stargate Atlantis

  • NCIS

  • I don’t really have time to catch other more “feminine” shows such as “Desperate Housewives” (haven’t followed this since the birth of my girl), Home & Gardening show, “Better Homes & Gardens” + “Gardening Australia”. I guess the main contributing factor of my being unable to spend time on TV is because my night time (after little girl goes to sleep between 7.30pm – 9.30pm) is dedicated to oggling at the PC till about 11pm or midnight! That explains! But sigh, what to do, gotta work hard to keep up with the rising mortgage interest rates.

Anyway besides those shows, I find myself getting more familiar with children shows, haha because me and my girl spend every afternoon watching her kiddy shows such as Playschool, Thomas The Engine, Bob the Builder (yeah my girl loves cars, trucks, trains – she doesn’t like Hi-5), Bananas in Pyjamas and several others.

    Satellite TV

March 16th, 2008 Cake Posted in Movies/TV No Comments »

We had been discussing about installing one of those mega huge satellite (like 5x the size of Astro Msia) just so we could tune into the free to air TV programmes in several countries. Well, my main favourite would be TVB. DH checked with some of the neighbours and found out that it generally costs around AU$700 all up one time payment (satellite + installation). There is no monthly subscription to be paid. This is for free to air channels only. I reckon if we could get TVB alone, it will be well worth it compared to subscribing to a Sydney Chinese pay TV which provides TVB programmes at about AU$50 a month excluding installation and satellite charges. The neighbour was very kind to let us know that we can go over his house to check out the channels (he told us he could receive TVB) before we decide to install one too. That’s cool. We’ll have to KIV this until much, much later when the little girl will actually allow us to watch TV without interrupting, wanting to be carried, asking to “watch ABC” (Leapfrog Letter Factory), this and that!
