Kitchen Light

August 7th, 2010 Cake Posted in Home Decor Comments Off

Goodness me, now I remember that we’ve actually bought a kitchen lighting for our home almost a year ago but yet to get an electrician to install it in our kitchen. Talk about being slack!

The light is still in its box, sitting on a pile of other stuff! It wasn’t my idea to buy it. DH being him, bought it and as usual, he’d buy something only to let it sit idle. The same goes for the backyard light we bought at the same time.

I won’t be surprised he’d only think about installing it if/when we finally move out!

Furniture window shopping

May 27th, 2010 Cake Posted in Home Decor Comments Off

Went to the home furnishing centre last week and again admired the various types of log furniture displayed. There is something about it that attracts me. Nature perhaps.

It feels so close to nature to have that kind of furniture around the house. Now I’m thinking of a home in the mountains. Anyway, it was nice to look around and see what is available in the market these days. We never tire of window shopping for furniture and such.

Two sinks please

March 30th, 2010 Cake Posted in Home Decor Comments Off

One thing we would really love to have in our ensuite if it is ever possible, is a vanity with two separate sinks ie for him and her. We see that in some of the display houses and absolutely love the idea.

It is not that I dislike sharing just the one with DH but I like my own space. Though it sure does not mean that he will clean his own! I would still have to do all the cleaning.

I like the idea of being able to brush our teeth or wash our faces at the same time without having to take turns.

So will that day ever come for us to enjoy a double sink? Hotels and resorts do not count!

Ding Dong

March 14th, 2010 Cake Posted in Home Decor Comments Off

When we first moved to our home, we contemplated whether to have the electricians install a doorbell.  At the time we did not see the immediate need for that and so we tried to save a couple of hundred by opting out.

However, several years later, we regret not having done so because we get neighbours knocking at our door quite often and sometimes I wasn’t aware it was a door knock because they had knocked onto the grill gate which made a different sound that lead me to think it was something else and I didn’t answer the door.
Also, I wouldn’t be able to hear a door knock say for example from a mailman if I were at the backyard.

I know we could have one installed or wired at anytime, there are even wireless ones in the market that runs on battery (I wonder how often we’ll have to change batteries?). But I don’t know, maybe later :D

Water feature

March 11th, 2010 Cake Posted in Home Decor Comments Off

We are fortunate to be able to live in a neighbourhood where all home owners take good care of their frontyard, garden and lawn. There is one particular house that even built a fountain which flows into a shallow pond in his frontyard.

I wonder if he had installed a pond aerator for it. Every time I walked past his home, I can’t help but get drawn to the water sounds running down the fountain, it is very therapeuric.

Other homes have sculptures and other water features at their frontyards. We don’t plan to install any for it will cost us an arm and a leg ?

Need to install lightings

November 25th, 2009 Cake Posted in Home Decor Comments Off

Not sure if I had mentioned that several months back, we purchased two sets of lightings, one for the backyard and another for the kitchen area, the ceiling right above the sink.

We would have to hire an electrician to do the wiring and install the lights for us. Times like these, I do wish DH knows something about electrical wiring around the home. I reckon if we do it ourselves, we could save a lot by buying our own electrical supplies. That is, if only DH was professionally qualified to handle electrical wiring, otherwise, I’d say no for trying.

Well, so the lights are sitting intheir boxes for months now, not sure when we’ll get someone to do it. We are not in a hurry though.

Lightings

October 27th, 2009 Cake Posted in Home Decor Comments Off

Christmas is just around the corner. Am still contemplating since my previous post, whether to unpack the tree and trimmings from the boxes. Some of the houses in our neighbourhood have put up lightings on the exterior of their house front – so efficient indeed.

I love Christmas time as the lighting from the décor makes the house look beautiful inside out. For some reason, it always make me wish that we sconce lightings installed on the walls of our bedroom as gives such a cozy, warm and elegant feeling.

I do sometimes regret not choosing it for our bedroom.  We could still engage an electrician to come fix them but hmmm to go through the trouble, I think maybe not now.

Christmas decor

October 27th, 2009 Cake Posted in Home Decor Comments Off

Hmm, should I begin our Christmas decoration now? This weekend will be end of November. Already two weeks ago I see some houses have put up tube lights and various Christmas lightings all around the front of their houses including the roof – the works.

First I guess I gotta clear up the boxes that occupy the space where the tree is placed every year. Our house is like a store room, so many things for just the three of us, goodness!

I know DD will have a field time hanging the baubles around the tree and that DH prolly can’t wait to put on the lights we bought at 50% off last year.

Lightings for our home

October 13th, 2009 Cake Posted in Home Decor Comments Off

We bought some lightings last month for the kitchen and also the backyard. However we have yet to get an electrician to do the wiring. I love walking into lighting shops, the galore of lightings are just so beautiful.

I also love wall candle sconces, it gives a homey feel to it. Love the warm feeling it gives during winter. They would be very pretty for our walls near the entrance to our front door. However, I am always worried about the candle flame.

Should I or should I not get one?

Our bare outdoors

April 25th, 2009 Cake Posted in Home Decor Comments Off

Like many first time home owners, I had great dreams before and when we first moved to our newly completed home three years ago. I had planned for some outdoor settees for the patio as well as a long wooden garden bench complete with outdoor cushions. Ah sounds so shabby chic, just as I always dreamed of.

But alas, those dreams were shattered after I realized the problems of spiders. If you leave something out there overnight, you are bound to see some spider webs or spiders running around the next morning.

Nothing escapes the spiders in the outdoors. The last thing I want is to have to shake the cushions, wipe the bench and settees to ensure there are no spiders each time we use them.

Thus the reason our home outdoors and garden have no furniture whatsoever.
