Modern weddings

March 8th, 2010 :: Category - CupCake Yaks

I love looking at this generation’s wedding photos, decors, etc. It is simply amazing how wedding accessories have evolved since my time, which was a decade ago.  I really wish I could attend all my nieces and nephews weddings back home.  It had been such a long long time since I attended a wedding back home.

Goodness me, nowadays they even make a music video starring the wedding couple themselves, just too cute! I wish they had thought of this 10 years ago! Well I guess it is not too late to get one done except that we’re not exactly in our best physical shape now, hehe.

I can’t imagine the kind of technology and accessories available for weddings when my little girl gets married in probably 2.5 – 3 decades time. It should be fun ?

Happening

March 8th, 2010 :: Category - Thoughts

It is a blessing indeed that we happen to choose living in this area because there are always some activities happening for kids and family. It is really great for toddlers and preschool age kids, something to keep them occupied with. Not only that it is great for the moms too, meeting other moms and all.

To be honest when I first visited this suburb 7 years ago, my first thought was “where is this place, it’s sooooo far away from everything!”. Gosh, how wrong was I to even think that. Look at it now, thank goodness for the developments throughout the years. It has become such a lovely place to live in and I am just so happy we decided to live on this side of the suburb where all the facilities are rather than the opposite suburb where I initially thought was more happening.

Loving the library

March 7th, 2010 :: Category - Thoughts

I must admit that before we had DD, I hardly ever visit the library simply because I was so used to getting information I wanted, via the internet. Moreover where I used to live, the libraries were not equipped with the latest technology.

However all that changed after the newest library was opened at our area. I love how we could self issue and renew books, etc and a receipt would be printed out via a thermal printer which looks similar (if not already) to an Epson tm-t88iv model except that the print out is in all black. I also love the fact that we could just drive through to return the books, it’s so super convenient.

Ageing

February 28th, 2010 :: Category - CupCake Yaks

Boy, am I tired! Never enough sleep for me even if I sleep half the day away. Gosh what is happening? One thing though, as soon as I am up, I never stop doing this and that from cooking –> cleaning –> laundry –> ironing –> shopping –> tending to DD –> computer!  When I say non stop, I really mean non stop, alright maybe a 5 min break in between chores.

Hopefully next year things will slow down a bit.

Need to cut cost

February 27th, 2010 :: Category - Expenses/Finances

Utility bills seems to be costing more as the electricity rate has been increased, *sigh*. It’s rather difficult to cut down on our water, gas and electricity usage as we don’t even use that much. As for water, it is the compulsory charges that make up the huge bill.

The only other area we could cut cost is to look at cheaper insurance; perhaps getting some home insurance quotes to compare how much savings we will make might be a good start to lowering our expenses.

We should really look into getting only the necessary covered and get away with contents insurance. It would be cheaper this way and I know many people don’t insure their home contents too.

Good Food, Great Friends

February 27th, 2010 :: Category - Eating

Had a scrumptious dinner at our home last night, much thanks to our friends who brought two delicious homecooked dishes. I made some garlic prawns with white wine. We had pineapple tarts, ondeh ondeh and fruits. The kids enjoyed themselves playing most of the time and thankfully they all ate their dinners withhout much ado.

I hope this is just the beginning of many dinners which we hope to host in the future with different other friends. For now, I need to brush up my cooking skills and add more dishes to my limited cooking list :)

No to flannelette bedding

February 25th, 2010 :: Category - Beauty/Health Talk

When DD was very much younger, the time when she was an infant until a toddler, I was so worried about her skin allergy. One thing I discovered was that flannelette bed sheets made her skin itch because the material tends to pil after only a few washes. Now people with very sensitive skin would find pils on clothings or sheets extremely annoying whereas people who have crocodile skin like me, do not feel anything and absolutely not bothered about piling on materials with skin contact.

Anyway, I am so relieved now that I know I do not have to purchase special allergy bedding as long as I stay away from flannelettes and buy good cotton sheets that do not pil. So far DD and DH are alright with cotton sheets.

Lovely weather

February 24th, 2010 :: Category - Weather

I sure hope Summer will bid goodbye by March 1st when Autumn officially begins. Today’s temp is great, a high of 26C and cloudy whole day (not so great for those who love to tan) and the rest of the week is looking good too.

Speaking of whether I can’t stand being the cold of Winter or the heat of Summer, I’d pick “I hate the heat” because though both is unbearable, hot weather gives me a headache if I am out in the sun or cooped up somewhere hot and humid during Summer, it also makes me moody. Whereas the cold just makes it unbearable but does not affect my mood nor gives me headaches. There you go.

Desperate for a Getaway

February 20th, 2010 :: Category - Travel

That is how I have been feeling for such a long time. Desperate for a holiday to somewhere with snow. Unfortunately due to some reasons, I have to strike New Zealand off the list though that would be the most ideal because it is the nearest country to us that has beautiful snow mountains and it doesn’t cost a bomb to fly over.

Now, Canada sounds more attractive especially when the Winter Olympics is currently going on there. I would love to stay at any resort in Canada, just anywhere, perhaps at any one of Toronto hotels would make me absolutely thrilled.

I hope visiting Canada will not just be a dream. Really wish to see it someday.

Kmart Opens till midnight

February 20th, 2010 :: Category - Shopping

It’s the best news ever when our local Kmart decides to open till midnight every Mon to Fri and up till 7pm on weekends.

At least now we can have our dinner, shower and then drive out for some leisure shopping at Kmart. It is nice to be able to look at things without beating the store’s closing time.

We don’t buy much at Kmart, only when something is on sale like household items, homewares, clothing for daily wear, etc. But we like browsing to see what’s new.
