Protecting the hands

September 3rd, 2010 :: Category - Gardening

When was the last time you put on a pair of gloves? I must say I put them on whenever I have to pull out weeds. I can use any kind of gloves, plastic or rubber, they work fine for me.

However that is not the case with DH. He has super sensitive hands. Whenever he has to dig the dirt, pull the weeds, handle bricks and rough materials like planks and woods, he needs to wear Mechanix gloves which are thick and strong else his hands would get blisters from getting in contact with the materials and soil he touches.

Thank goodness for such thick gloves else nothing would get done around the house *LOL*

Wet Spring

September 3rd, 2010 :: Category - Weather

Spring didn’t kick off beautifully. In fact it had been either too windy, gloomy, cloudy, showers and rain and will be so for the next 5 days. I must say it is great for the garden. Hopefully we will see more nice days with the occasional rainy days every now and then.

Speaking of garden, I broke the garden hose connector. Until we get a replacement, I am using a bucket to water the plants. Imagine carrying a bucketful of water x a minimum of 20 turns walking to & fro the tap. And that is only for the back portion of my garden, excluding the side of the house and the frontyard.

More memory needed

September 2nd, 2010 :: Category - Tech

I guess it is about time we get one or two more extra micro sd cards for our digicam just in case we ran out of space snapping away at our trip(s). I tend to use up the memory quite quickly especially when making short videos.

Looks like we would need to put this in our shopping list this coming weekend. That would be under DH’s task as he is responsible to purchase all things electrical except kitchen appliances.

What next?

September 2nd, 2010 :: Category - Career

I have been pondering about this quite a bit lately as the time draws closer for DD to start school full time. My friend and I both agreed that it would be near to impossible to work full time unless we are willing to send our kids to before and after school childcare. However both of us believe in being there as much as we could for our kids, therefore that is not an option.

Thankfully we are not pressed to rejoin the workforce asap. We could take our time to work things out. Getting a part time job within the school hours will certainly be a challenge.

Healthcare

August 30th, 2010 :: Category - Beauty/Health Talk

Every now and then there is bound to be in the news about the healthcare crisis and shortage of medical personnel be it doctors, nurses, etc in the public hospitals here. Yet I know there are many talented and hardworking doctors and nurses overseas who would give everything for a chance to practice here.  If only it is as easy as sending their medical resume over to the medical practices or hospitals here to land them a job. Unfortunately things are much tougher.

Well I really hope the healthcare crisis in the public hospitals would be taken care of. It has been going on for far too long. I am actually very disappointed to know of the state of healthcare provided in what is supposed to be a developed country.

Old clothes

August 29th, 2010 :: Category - Fashion

When I say old, I mean a decade old *LOL* Anyway, I am so glad I decided to keep some of my decade old clothes. I took them out today and wow I had obviously forgotten how freaking thin I was! I was looking at my old short skirts I used to wear at the office and thought to myself, this is ridiculous, how did I fit? LOL Then I looked at my jeans hoping I could find a pair that I can fit right back in at this moment but no way, they are all size 27″, doh!

Unfortunately even if I could fit into my ridiculously slim fit short skirts, I won’t be wearing them anymore. Can’t exactly wear such short skirts at my age now. Yeah this Aunty once upon a time loved short skirts especially with slits. Who would’ve guessed when one looks at this dawdy old Aunty me now huh?

Saving with Coupons

August 20th, 2010 :: Category - Expenses/Finances

Are you the kind of person who would bother to take advantage of discount coupons? My other half is not but I am. I do not mind spending time surfing for online coupons that could save me 20-30% or a buy 1 get 1 free burgers, chips, free upgrade, etc.

The best savings I had was a buy one free one entry to a wildlife park, we saved more than $50 using the printed coupons! I don’t know why some people like my DH does not really bother to take advantage of discounts readily available but instead, choose to pay full price. Hmmph!

Beautiful day but

August 19th, 2010 :: Category - Beauty/Health Talk

It’s a bit of a waste that I couldn’t do anything in our garden. Didn’t go out with DD today as I want to rest my leg so that I could be in a better condition on Saturday when I meet my friends. Hope my cold goes away fully by then too. What a condition to meet up some old friends – limping and with a red nose *LOL*

Hope the good and warmer weather continues and of course, speedy recovery to my leg. At least I have learnt a lesson – always do stretches before attempting to exercise.

Higher education

August 17th, 2010 :: Category - To Do

Am I still thinking about that? At times I do. Why? Because I would have more peace next year (hopefully) when the hyper one spends 5 days a week at school. Many moms I know locally have either already equipped themselves with higher learning or are planning to get some sort of specialised training skills. This would increase their chances of getting back into the workforce after a lapse of a decade or more.

I must admit, I feel kinda left out hearing them talk about their plans. Perhaps I should start getting information on Online Schools and see what would suit my interest and desire. Getting equipped with other skills is always good even if I may not practice them.

I will see how it goes next year.

Hello Kitty bags

August 16th, 2010 :: Category - Shopping

Bought a few Hello Kitty reusable bags online. Too cheap to pass at only over a dollar each with free shipping. Couldn’t get any cheaper. I mean you certainly can’t find this price at the local shops here, I guarantee that!

I’ve been using one to stuff in DD’s swimming stuff when we go for her lessons. Eventhough at times it got kinda heavy due to the things I put in it like water bottle, container of food, my heavy handbag, wet clothes, shoes, etc, etc, the bag is very durable.
